According to a 2015 study by the National Alliance for Caregiving and AARP, 34.2 million Americans have provided unpaid care to an adult age 50 or older in the last 12 months.
Almost half of unpaid caregivers are caring for someone who has Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of memory loss, which can be a particularly draining experience, that’s why Respite Care is so important.
Being a caregiver can be an overwhelming task and many do not realize that there is Respite Care available. Respite Care gives a break to primary caregivers. This can be for an afternoon, days, or weeks. It gives them a chance to “recharge their batteries”, by taking an afternoon off, or a vacation.
Although most insurance plans do not cover the cost, Medicare will cover most of the cost of up to 5 days in a row if the care is provided in a hospital or skilled nursing facility for a person receiving hospice care. Medicaid may also offer assistance.
All of our Vetras locations are skilled nursing facilities and a number of them provide award winning memory care.
If you or a family member are in need of Respite Care, contact the administrator of your closest Vetras location. They will be able to discuss your options and determine if Respite Care is covered by your insurance.
